The arrival

** different kind of post**

Once a year on the same day, I wake up and face the day with anticipation, All day long I go through the motions, counting the minutes. The calls and texts I receive are an unwelcome distraction. Today is my favorite day. Impatiently I wait in Starbucks for my order (venti sweetened ice tea, I’m addicted try not to judge) I go over fashion advice with my freinds, call and make my mom feel better about whatever thing is happening in her life( she makes oscar worthy drama over spilled milk) . Try to make avoid all life decisions while staring at the minutes tick by on my watch.
The anticipation kills me, I just want to get to the store

I try to act dignified as I peruse around, pretending that this isn’t the only thing that’s been on my mind for weeks. I pick up a salad, and some yogurt (no matter how confident I am the September issue always makes me vow to eat more greens) a bottled water and a tea and then I approach the magazine rack. Every month I normally buy almost every magazine there is. ( i don’t do digital) but in September I only buy ONE!

Vogue

The September Issue is sheer magnificence. Many people who are not that entrenched in the fashion world may not quite understand the obsession and devotion that is paid to the September Issue. That is completely understandable. To most people it seems like an overpriced picture book. And if you are not well versed in fashion, it basically is.

However for those of us who are interested in Fashion, The September issue of Vogue could be likened to the Holy Scripture of women’s fashion. Between the covers, is every thing a a girl dreams about. Jimmy Choose, Chanel, Manolo, Loubitons, Louis Vuitton, and Dior, all peering at you from the glossy pages of this magazine ( although it has more pages than some novels, and should be called a book!

In order for someone to understand the WHY it is so important to me, I think you need some background. I am the only child of a single father. My father is a good man, but he is very much a mans man. It was a fun and beautiful life but not one that raises young ladies. My dad was only ever strict about three things. When I was fourteen I joined a punk band called (we only ever played in the garage). And as the bassist for a punk band I dyed my hair green. I carried on in my big baggy tee shirts and jeans with rips in the knees and never gave it another thought. I let the green grow out and it looked horrible, but hey back then I thought looking like a swamp thing was very Rock N’ Roll.

But then it changed. I was seventeen and my style had progressed from loose ripped destroyed clothes to tight(ish) deconstructed clothes. I was in the grocery store and I saw Kristin Dunst in pink and full French Regalia.
I wanted the magazine, I had never seen anything like it. So I begged my dad to buy it for me. He laughed his great big belly laugh and put it through the check out line.

When we arrived home I began to read it.I read it front to back three times. I was gleaning every ounce of information that It could possibly give me. And I realized all at once that I WANTED THIS! I wanted to be poised and polished and beautiful.

Vogue changed my life and because of what I have learned from its pages I love the person that I have become. So what I am trying to get across is that vogue is both just a overpriced stack of papers, and a lifeline. It has the power to reach every young woman and make them believe that they can be better. That if they want to change or grow they can and they don’t have to be a mutant green swamp thing forever.
